2020 Sparta Police Department Citizens’ Academy

I would like to personally invite you to participate in the 2020 Sparta Police Department Citizens’ Police Academy (SPDCPA). The SPDCPA is intended to improve the relationship between the Sparta Police Department and the citizens we serve by providing a more intimate knowledge of the Sparta Police Department and its operations.

Those who participate in the SPDCPA will gain up-close and personal knowledge of what is required of a modern day police officer, as well as the day-to-day operations of the Sparta Police Department. This is accomplished through demonstrations and personal interactions between the presenters and those who participate in the SPDCPA.

The topics covered include: use of force requirements, firearms and TASER, evidence collection, patrol vehicle operations, K-9, and shoot/no-shoot scenarios. We also coordinate time with the Monroe County 9-1-1 Communications Center, Monroe County Jail, District Attorney’s Office and Courthouse so participants can learn about multiple aspects of our justice system.

The SPDCPA is scheduled to meet weekly on Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, beginning on October 1, 2020. In addition to the Thursday meetings there are three Saturday sessions, bringing the total sessions to non. We will conclude prior to November 20.

The SPDCPA is intended to be an enjoyable learning experience for participants and presenters alike. If you are interested in attending the SPDCPA, please print and complete the following application and return to the Sparta Police Department, Attention Sergeant Joel Ames, no later than September 11, 2020.
